Aquatrans project made significant progress during the meeting held in Gran Canaria

Aquatrans partners held in Gran Canaria project meetings between the 12th and the 15th of November. It has been a very busy and productive week in which the various meetings have contributed to the strengthening of relations in aquaculture between the Canaries and Souss Massa Draa.

Formal establishment of Aquatrans Network for transboundary cooperation in sustainable aquaculture.

Aquatrans project partners have agreed during this visit the approval of the rules and the formal constitution of Aquatrans network, which will reinforce the cooperation between the two regions, especially among people and institutions involved in the development of aquaculture.

Thus, on November 13th a formal act of presentation in the Canary Islands of both Aquatrans Project and Aquatrans Network was held at the institutional headquarters of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The opening ceremony brought together the Rector of the ULPGC, Mr. José Regidor, the Vice-President of the University of Ibn Zohr, Mr. Abdellatif Moukrim, and the Director of the Marine Fisheries Institute of Las Palmas, Mr. Juan Socorro.

This ceremony was followed by the signature by the project partners of the formal constitution of Aquatrans Network.

The partners fulfil their duties

During their stay project partners have worked hard. The various meetings have included the coordination of Aquatrans project activities. A specific meeting has served to present the progress of on-going activities and the programming of next phases in order to meet the designed objectives.

In addition, there have been technical visits to research and training facilities in marine fisheries and aquaculture, in particular the Canary Institute of Marine Science, the Marine Science and Technology Park belonging to the ULPGC and the Marine Fisheries Institute of Las Palmas.

As part of the activities established in the project, a Bilateral Meeting of Competent Authorities in Aquaculture Training was developed. This event was attended by invited representatives of the entities responsible for teaching institutions in the two regions, in order to discuss the future of training in aquaculture and the main contents to be incorporated. Furthermore, the contents of the new training programs in aquaculture of Morocco were discussed in depth.
